West Bend, Wi – With the celebration of Catholic Schools Week each year, Holy Angels School in West Bend recognizes former students with the National Catholic Educational Association’s Distinguished Graduate Award.
Although the school year did not allow for the presentation of the award during Catholic Schools Week, Anne Weise, the Principal at Holy Angels School, was able to present the award at the 9:30 a.m. church service Sunday, May 16.
The school’s mission includes service to others. Throughout the school year students work on service projects, and teachers instill the importance of service as a way to spread Jesus’s love.
It is always refreshing when a graduate of Holy Angels continues to live this mission into adulthood. This year Principal Weise was honored to present the distinguished graduate award to an individual who has lived the school’s mission to the fullest and continues to serve this community with a heart of God.
This year’s recipient was Matthew Sternig, a member of the Class of 1991.
Sternig has been active in parish life in a variety of capacities. He served several years on Parish Council, has been a lector, and helps coordinate the Festival of Angels food stand grillers and fryers.
Sternig has supported the school by serving on the Development Committee, provided an abundance of media support for Catholic Schools Week, Fish Fry/Gifts from the Heart, and is always a phone call away when media assistance is needed. He also coached basketball and helped at the Holy Angels tournament.
Sternig also serves the community by coaching Little League baseball and club baseball teams, serving as Treasurer on the Little League Board, helping maintain the ballfields, and supports West Bend West volleyball as an announcer/commentator on streaming broadcasts.
Sternig said he was honored and humbled to be chosen for the award.
“Matt has a passion to share the West Bend community with others and that shows in all he does to support the school and parish,” said Weise.
