Authorities identify man pulled from Lake Winnebago in neighboring Fond du Lac County | By Sheriff Ryan F. Waldschmidt

April 26, 2022 – Fond du Lac, WI – The Fond du Lac County Sheriff has released the identity of the man found partially submerged over the weekend in Lake Winnebago.

The victim in this incident has been identified as Thomas D. Williams, 57, of Fond du Lac.  The circumstances surrounding his death and the location where his body was found remain under investigation.  Detectives have determined Williams was still alive in early April of this year and are asking for the public’s assistance.

Incident:  Found Body – Update #1

Authority:  Sheriff Ryan F. Waldschmidt

An autopsy has been completed and preliminary findings show no sign of injury or trauma.  Detectives are notifying next of kin and continuing their investigation to determine circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.  We do not believe there is any threat to the public and foul play is not suspected at this time.  The identity of the victim, a 57 year old Fond du Lac man, will be released after next of kin notification is made and further investigation is conducted.  No further information can be shared at this time, as the case remains open and active.

Initial story posted Sunday, April 24, 2022
On Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 4 p.m., a citizen reported finding what he believed to be a body partially submerged in the water along the shoreline of Lake Winnebago at N7595 Lakeshore Drive in the town of Friendship.

Fond du Lac Sheriff submerged

Deputies, detectives and an investigator from the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and confirmed the body was that of an adult male.

Preliminary identification has been made, however until the Medical Examiner confirms the identity of the victim, the name will not be released.

 

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning, and a deputy will remain at the scene where the victim was found pending the outcome of the autopsy.  No further information can be shared at this time, as the case remains open and active.
