Jordan Stolz takes Silver in the 500 meter at ISU World Cup in Poland

February 18, 2023 – Tomaszów Mazowiecki /POL – Town of Kewaskum phenomenon Jordan Stolz secured a silver medal Saturday morning as he won his 500-meter race at the ISU World Cup in Tomaszów Mazowiecki /POL vs. the top points leader Laurent Dubreuil of Canada.

Stolz, wearing the white armband, started on the inside lane.

Both Stolz and Dubreuil made powerful starts; Dubreuil edging Stolz in the first turn by .08 seconds.

Coach Bob Corby said, “Larry is unbelievably powerful. Slipped a little in first turn and Jordan was superb!”

 

Stolz picked up momentum in the outer turn and slingshot into the final stretch where he came from behind to cross the finish in 34.73, just .15 of a second ahead of the Canadian. Dubreuil finished in 34.88.

The ISU World Cup winner from Japan Yuma Murakami finished just .04 seconds ahead of Stolz to secure the gold medal with a time of 34.69. Dai Dai N’Tab of the Netherlands finished 3rd with a time of 34.79.

On Friday, Stolz took 1st place in the 1500 meter with a time of 1:45.44 vs. Kjeld Nuis who finished at 1:46.16.  Click HERE to watch the 1500m race where Stolz won gold.

Stolz’s gold-medal finish of 1:45.44 was also a new track record. The previous track record was held by Dutch speedskater Thomas Krol set in November 2019 with a time of 1:45.76.

A couple side notes:

  • Stolz finished the 500 meter in 34.73 seconds. The World Record was set in March 2019 by Pavel Kulizhnikov of Russia with a time of 33.61.  The track record was set November 2021 by Tingyu Gao of China with a time of 34.26. 
  • Stolz set a 500-meter track record at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee during the U.S. Junior Championships in January 2023. He finished with a time of 34.40.
