2 kayakers rescued from Lake Michigan in neighboring Ozaukee County | By Ozaukee County Sheriff Jim Johnson

July 11, 2022 – Ozaukee County, WI – On Sunday, July 10, 2022 at approximately 7:35 p.m., the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Hwy D and Lake Michigan, in the Town of Belgium, for the report of two missing kayakers.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office had received information from the United States Coast Guard of two kayakers in need of assistance. The United States Coast Guard reported that one kayaker was stranded on top of a kayak while the whereabouts of the second individual was unknown

The United States Coast Guard, Belgium Fire Department, Port Washington Fire Department, Cedar Grove Fire Department, Ozaukee County Emergency Management, Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office and the Port Washington Police Department responded to assist in the search for the missing kayakers.

At approximately 8:28 p.m., the United States Coast Guard notified the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office that both of the missing kayakers had been rescued. They were transported to the Port Washington Marina by the Coast Guard. Both individuals were evaluated by the Port Washington Fire Department and no injuries were reported.
