March 7, 2020 – Jackson, WI – In their first playoff game, the No. 2 Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers beat the No. 7 University School of Milwaukee Wildcats 96 – 76. This win advances the Chargers in the Division 3 WIAA 2020 Boys Basketball Tournament.
The KML students came out to support their team and the energy from everyone added to the excitement. USM was first to score. KML’s last win over USM left the team a little overconfident, senior Ethan Duba said, “We had a lot more confidence than we should have had. We came out slow in the first half because we knew the first time we played them we beat them. In a way, it hurt us, but in the end, we pulled it off.”
Halftime ended with the Chargers barely leading 44 – 41. The Wildcats were able to tie and eventually lead for a time before the Chargers regrouped and began increasing their lead.
Austin Schaff led the Chargers scoring 23 points. Austin Wagner was the next highest scorer with 19 points. Dylan Loduha and Jacob Stoltz tied with 17 points. Going into the game, Stoltz only needed 7 points to break the school record of total points per season, which stood at 1,152. His 17 points gave him the new school record of 1,162.
