Letter to the Editor | Save our Samaritan | By Valery Brussat

West Bend, WI – This is an emergent call to the community for help–family, friends, and residents of Washington County–before it’s too late. The Samaritan Health Center of Washington County is an integral part of the community.  Its roots date back over 100 years, and since the1960’s, in its current location, has continued to provide service to some of the most vulnerable through quality of life and quality of care.

Letter to the Editor The health of a community is the collective well-being of community members. Samaritan Health Center provides a wide array of health care services that preserve the dignity, independence, and individual choices of our Washington County citizens as they age and have health, housing, and rehabilitation needs.

There is true peace of mind, knowing your loved one is in good hands when considering a change of living arrangements for the elderly.  A significant part of that arrangement is having your loved one near enough to be able to make frequent visits, maintaining those family and friends’ connections.

My Mom was a beneficiary of rehabilitation care at Samaritan Health Center. As the only family member in the area, it was significant for me to be able to visit multiple times a week to enhance her care and expedite her return home.  For many though, Samaritan Health Center is their home.

I ask all County Board members to imagine a loved one, or even themselves, in need of nursing home care, whether temporary for rehabilitation or long-term—miles away, an hour or more drive away, isolated, alone?  Or, would you rather be near family and friends who can visit frequently, and thereby, adding to quality of life? The County Board and citizens of Washington County need to do whatever it takes.
