Local fire departments battle two vehicle fires in Washington County

Sept. 11, 2017 – Washington Co., WI – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, as well as area fire departments, responded to a couple of vehicle fires over the past several days.

On Friday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 a.m. in the 5500 block of Aurora Road in the Town of Addison. Emergency crews were dispatched to a report of a semi on fire near a structure.

Upon the deputy’s arrival the semi was fully engulfed. Fire personnel had to battle the fire with the knowledge that the fuel tanks were full of diesel.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the vehicle fire without any damage to the surrounding area, but the vehicle was a total loss. The preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was last operated at 9:30 p.m. the previous evening and may have experienced an electrical failure.

On Monday, Sept. 11 at 10:35 a.m. an 81-year-old Town of Hartford man was operating his 2008 Ford F250 pick-up truck on CTH S in the area of HWY 175 when he observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. By the time he pulled to the shoulder of the road fire could be seen.

St. Lawrence Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire but the vehicle was a total loss.
