Dodge Co., Wi – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has received another report of a scam targeting local residents.
In this latest incident, the caller claimed a family member had been arrested and needed money to be released from jail. The caller told the victim that a payment was needed for GPS monitoring fees and requested the money be sent through PayPal.
Scammers often use fear, urgency, and personal information to convince victims to send money quickly. They may claim a loved one has been arrested, injured, stranded, or is facing an emergency situation.
🚨 Remember:
• Law enforcement agencies do not collect bail, GPS fees, fines, or other payments through PayPal, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or similar payment methods.
• Be cautious of callers who demand immediate payment.
• If you receive a call involving a family member in distress, hang up and contact that family member directly or call the appropriate agency to verify the information.
• Never provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers.
