West Bend, WI – For Shelley Mraz, owning Colour Your World with Shelley is about more than cutting and coloring hair. After 29 years in the beauty industry, she has built lasting relationships with clients who have become friends and, in many cases, feel like family.
Now, Mraz is enjoying a new chapter at The Beauty Collective, 3716 W. Washington St. in West Bend, Wi.
Mraz has spent the past 16 years renting a chair, but she said moving into her own private studio gives her something she has wanted for a long time.
“I joined The Beauty Collective to be a little more ‘on my own,’” Mraz said. “Although I’ve been in this position for the last 16 years, I love that I have a more private space to work, to have a little more calm and to be more one-on-one with my customers.”
She also hopes her clients appreciate the privacy.
Mraz offers haircuts for men, women, children and teens, along with blowouts, updos, color services, balayage and ombre, and facial waxing. She also does hair feathers and will soon be offering hair tinsel, which she said can be especially popular for homecoming.
Mraz enjoys the creative side of the business and, most of all, the people.
“I am definitely a people person,” she said. “I like getting to know new people. My clients have become friends, many feel more like family.”
That relationship-building is one reason she still enjoys the work after nearly three decades.
“I didn’t think I’d ever be doing one particular job for this long, but when you love it, it doesn’t feel like a job,” Mraz said.
The Beauty Collective offers Mraz the independence of having her own studio while still being part of a larger beauty community. The facility features private suites, shared amenities, Wi-Fi and utilities included in the rent.
For Mraz, the private setting fits the way she wants to work: one client, one conversation and one appointment at a time.
“I really hope they’re happy with the services they’ve received, and that they feel comfortable and can trust me with their needs,” she said.
The Beauty Collective has room for you. The salon features eight private suites, with one double unit, allowing for up to 10 renters. Each room comes equipped with a reclining chair, hair sink, cabinetry, mirrors positioned for full visibility, and clever built-ins like pull-out work surfaces and towel storage.
