Dennis James Frost, 94 formerly of Milwaukee and Ocala, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2015 in Appleton, Wisconsin surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 13, 1921 in Milwaukee, WI to Samuel and Elizabeth (nee Brown) Frost. He was united in marriage to Norma J. Richards on August 16, 1947 at Washington Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. She preceded him in death September 26, 2000 in Ocala, FL where they lived in Rolling Greens community for 18 years. They were married for 53 years.
Dennis worked for St. Joseph’s hospital in Milwaukee where he served as personnel director for 17 years. Prior to that, he was personnel director at Lutheran hospital of Milwaukee. He graduated in 1948 from Marquette University where he earned his BA Degree in personnel administration and labor relations completing a 4year program in 3 years. Prior to graduating from Boy’s Technical High School he enlisted the Wisconsin National Guard in 1939.
He was a member of the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry Division Headquarters of the 105th Horse Calvary Regiment at the Richards St. Armory, because he wanted to ride a horse. His guard unit was activated into Federal service as part of the U.S. Army in October of 1940. The horses were taken away and the unit was converted to the 126th field artillery.
While undergoing training in Camp Beauregard and Camp Livingston in Louisiana a new unit formed, the 632nd tank destroyer battalion drawing its members from the division’s 3 artillery regiments. The division was shipped out from San Francisco on April 22, 1942 and arrived 24 days later on May 14 in Adelaide South Australia. After some preparation in jungle warfare, Dennis spent the rest of his 33 months of overseas duty in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was awarded Combat battle stars for participating in amphibious assaults at Saidor and Aitape in New Guinea and at Leyte Island in the Philippines.
Dennis is survived by his loving children, Mark (Tana) Frost of Appleton, Scott (Lori St. Charles) Frost of Milwaukee, Patti (Dennis) Schick of Hartford, and Connie (Craig) Forecki Milwaukee; Special friend Mary Ann Zingsheim; 7 grandchildren Michael (Briten) Frost, Deborah Boyce, Jeffery Terwelp, Alexandra Schick, Kristin (Jason) West, Ryan (Elizabeth) Carow, Audra Carow, Deanna (Ryan) Neff, and Kory(Christy) Waid, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. He is further survived by other dear relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Norma in 2000, and brothers Richard and Jerome Frost.
Funeral Services for Dennis will be held on Wednesday December 23, 2015 at 12:00 p.m.at the Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union Street Hartford, WI 53027) with Pastor Aaron Steinbrenner officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m.-Noon
