Frieda L. Stommel, 89, of Fond du Lac passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. She was born on April 30, 1926, in Lomira, the daughter of Joseph & Cecelia (Schraufnagel) Wondra. On August 26, 1944, Frieda married Claude J. Stommel at St Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy. During her younger years she worked at Mayville Canning Company and later at the shoe factory in Lomira. Freida and Claude farmed together in the Town of Rubicon, the Allenton area and later in Town of Ashford.
Frieda enjoyed cooking, baking, farm work, flowers, birds – especially cardinals, reading magazines, collecting coins and planting trees every year. She had a special love for Christmas and her ornaments. Her tree always had to be “perfect”.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children Donald (Jan) Stommel of Rubicon, Betty (Raymond) Schmidt of Allenton, Marie (Terry) Polnow of Fond du Lac, Ronald (Margie) Stommel of Theresa, Elaine (Clemens) Feucht of Fond du Lac, James (Sandra) Stommel of Rubicon, Roseann (Joseph) Ritger of Allenton, Glenn (Joann) Stommel of Beaver Dam, John (Sharon) Stommel of Eden, and Michael Stommel of Fond du Lac, her daughter-in-law Vivian  Stommel of Kewaskum, 29 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Gertrude Wondra, Janice Wondra,  Marilyn Pea, Mary Ann (Jerome) Priesgen, Phillip and Agnes Zimmerman and Ramona Stommel, many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Claude on October 15, 1996, her parents, her son Arnold, twin great-grandchildren, also her siblings; Joseph (Martha) Wondra, Jr., Alice (Herbert) Hundt, Bernard (Marie) Wondra, Eleanora Wondra, Francis Wondra, Alvin Wondra, Lambert (Joyce) Wondra, Adaline (Roy) Margelofsky, Rita (Simon) Kromer and Edgar Wondra, also brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Charles Stommel and Paul and Delores Scholtes.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd from 3:00-8:00 pm at Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St. Campbellsport and on Wednesday from 9:30 am until time of Mass at Shepherd of the Hills Church, W1562 County Road B, Eden.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday December 23 at 11:00 am at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church. Father John Radetski will officiate and entombment will follow in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Eden Park Gazebo Fund in Frieda’s memory.
