Obit: Lucille A. Sudbrink, 94, formerly of Grafton

Mrs. Lucille Sudbrink, formerly of the Town of Grafton, passed away at Brookdale, Sussex on Friday morning, August 26, 2016. Lucille had been previously residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Alberta and Fred in Sussex. She was 94 years old. Lucille was born at home in the Town of Grafton on December 17, 1921, daughter of George and Anna Hertel Dowe. On January 6, 1945, she was united in marriage with Albert Sudbrink in the parsonage at St. John Lutheran Church in Lakefield. The couple settled on a farm in the area and began their family. He preceded her in death in 2009.

Mrs. Sudbrink was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lakefield, where she taught Sunday school and often helped with the cooking for church events; her potato salad and desserts were enjoyed by many. She was a hard worker who always put others first; Lucille took good care of her family, and was a wonderful caretaker for her husband in his last years. She was a meticulous bookkeeper for the farm and family accounts, and loved playing hymns on her accordion as well as gardening, canning, and working word puzzles. In her younger years Lucille had wanted to be a teacher; She enjoyed children, most especially her grandkids and great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Sudbrink is survived by her three daughters: Judith (Bernard) Schreiner of Glendale, Audrey (Kerry) Kanies of Hubertus and Alberta (Fred) Mess of Sussex, three grandchildren: Jonathan (Micki) Schreiner of Port Washington, Elizabeth (Jason) Philps of Merton and Katherine (Kurt) Oleszko of Kaukauna. She is further survived by six great-granddaughters: Arlee, Abbi, Ivy, Olive, Aria and Una, sister-in-law Donna Dowe of Grafton, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers Alvin Dowe and Arthur (the late Leona) Schmidt.

A Memorial Service for Lucille will be held at 5PM on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church, 1193 Lakefield Road, Grafton. Pastor Jim O’Reilly-Christensen will preside. The family will receive visitors on Thursday at the CHURCH from 4-5PM. Mrs. Sudbrink will be laid to rest with her husband in the Lakefield Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers. The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
