Obit: Thomas Haeferer, 70, West Bend

Thomas Haeferer of West Bend died on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Silver Springs of Mequon at the age of 70 years. He was born on January 2, 1946 in Rockford, IL to the late Bernardt and Evelyn (nee Larson) Haeferer. Prior to moving to West Bend in 1982, he lived in Cape Coral, FL for a short time.

Tom was associated with the Threshold Sheltered Workshop. Here he learned job skills and worked as a dishwasher at various restaurants in the West Bend area including Jerry’s Restaurant, the former Old Courthouse Inn and Januli’s. He also worked at Walmart in Mukwonago as a greeter while living in East Troy.

He was active in the Special Olympics in track and field, bowling and basketball.

Survivors include 2 nephews Timothy (Coleen) Pryga of Mukwonago and Jonathan (Terry) Pryga of Grafton; great-niece and great-nephews Brianna and Tyler Pryga and Justin and Owen Pryga; further survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Roberta (Anthony) Pryga.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2 at 6 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Darin Wiebe officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Rockford, IL. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 until 5:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Threshold or Special Olympics.
