Obit: Thomas J. Sackett “Tom,” 79, of Hartford

May 19, 2018 – Hartford, WI –  Thomas J. Sackett “Tom,” 79, of Hartford, Wisconsin was called home to heaven on May 17, 2018, where he was welcomed by his deeply missed wife, Susie. Also there to welcome him were his parents, Alan and Anna Sackett, in-laws Willard and Lillian Reichert, his brother Mike, and many other relatives and friends.

Tom is survived by his loving children, Jeffrey (Tami) Sackett and Wendy (Eric) Casetta both of Hubertus, WI. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Geoffrey (special friend, Stephanie) and Jennifer Sackett and Morgan Casetta. He is further survived by his brother, Chuck. Tom was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. While Tom loved sharing a good story over a cigar and glass of scotch, his best memories were spending time with his family. Whether it was spending time hunting with Jeff and Geoffrey at the farm, watching Geoffrey, Jennifer or Morgan in sports or plays, or just spending the day at Druid Lake, Tom loved being with his wife, kids and grandkids.

Tom was born and raised in Rhinelander, WI where he spent his time hunting, fishing, playing football and hockey, working in the paper mill and helping his parents with their painting business. Tom went on to earn his degree from the University of River Falls-where he was a member of the “R-club” for lettering in football.

Tom moved to West Bend after graduation to work for the West Bend Company as a salesman. There he met Susie and they married in October of 1963. The next year they welcomed Jeff and Tom took a job for the State of Wisconsin. After a few years of working for the State, the family of three grew again as Wendy was born. Tom decided to take his career in a different direction and worked in Milwaukee for First Wisconsin Bank, several investment banking firms, MGIC and finally AMBAC (American Municipal Bond Assurance Corporation), where he spent almost 30 years. Tom was also very involved in his community where he served as an alderman in his younger years and in his retirement as the Chairman of the Board of Washington County. One of Tom’s most treasured memories was spending six weeks in Australia in 1973 as part of the Rotary exchange program. The memories and friends made on that trip lasted his entire life.

Mass of Resurrection for Tom will be celebrated Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 3:30p.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church (264 W. State Street Hartford, WI 53027) with Fr. David LaPlante officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at church on Thursday from 1:00-3:30p.m. Tom’s wish was to be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Milwaukee (8948 W Watertown Plank Rd, Wauwatosa, WI 53226) or to St. Kilian Catholic Parish (428 Forest Street, Hartford, WI 53027) in memory of Tom.

Jeff and Wendy send a special thank you to Tom’s Silverado Oak Village family and Horizon Hospice. “We appreciate that love and compassionate care you provided our Dad.”
