Obituary | Merle C. Ketelhohn, 87, of Mayville

July 21, 2020 – Mayville, WI – Merle C. Ketelhohn, 87, of Mayville passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020

He was born on February 1, 1933 to the late Harvey and Elda (nee Ruenger) Ketelhohn in Fox Lake, WI. In his teenage years he worked on his grandpa’s farm and at a resort restaurant. Merle honorably served in the United States Army.

 

 

On May 25, 1957 he was united in marriage to Mary Marquardt and together they raised six children. Merle drove truck and then worked for the Gehl Company for over 30 years. He drove school bus for the Mayville School district for 30 years. Merle also helped work with his children at a local farm. He was a member of the American Legion and the Gehl’s Hexelbank Club. Merle enjoyed driving his moped around town and went to coffee every morning with friends. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Those Merle leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife Mary Ketelhohn; six children Fred (Lee Ann) Ketelhohn, Bob (Anola) Ketelhohn, Brenda (Dan) Syvrud, Carl (Jolene) Ketelhohn Paul Ketelhohn, and John Ketelhohn; five grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Syvrud, Trista (Andrew) Heffner, Derek Ketelhohn, Nicole (Mike) Leahy, and Rachelle Ketelhohn; five great grandchildren, Ruby Syvrud, Raylan Syvrud, Allayna Heffner, David Heffner, and Owen Leahy; three sisters, Lois James, June Sumnicht, and Claudette (Harold) Spolum; a brother, Adrian (Mary) Kurth; a sister-in-law, Jo Kurth; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Jaimey Syvrud; two great granddaughters, Torrey Syvrud and Evelyn Syvrud; two sisters, JoAnn (Junior) Rau and Susie Kurth; three brothers, Lawrence Ketelhohn, Leslie (Evon) Ketelhohn, and John Kurth; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Edwin) Schultz and Marion (Edward) Kalepp; and three brothers-in-law, Bob James, Junior Sumnicht, and Donald (Margaret) Marquardt.

A memorial service in remembrance of Merle will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral, 15 S. Walnut St., Mayville.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
