Obituary | Robert F. Klockow, 86, of Hartford

Jan. 15, 2019 – Hartford, WI – Robert F. Klockow of Hartford passed away peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2019 at The Waterford in Hartford, at the age of 86.

Robert was born in Rapid City, SD on September 11, 1932 to Robert Frank Klockow and Ellen Josephine (nee Gramlich) Klockow.  He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Dins) of 58 years, his sons Robert Forrest (Stephanie), William Merrill (Eileen), daughter Margaret Ellen ( Andrew) Schmitz and 7 grandchildren: Samuel (Megan), Benjamin (fiance’ Emily),  Robert, Maxwell, Kendall, Emmett, and Xander.

Robert graduated from Hartford high School in 1950, went on to UW Madison for a degree in Economics and spent 2 years in the US Navy.  Upon returning, he decided to follow his father’s footsteps (HS chemistry teacher) and earned a teaching degree from the University of Florida. After teaching a variety of classes at Fox Lake High School 1960-61. He was offered an opportunity to work at the Hartford Savings and Loan, Savings Bank and ultimately to Landmark Credit Union. He worked there as a loan officer, board member, CEO, President and Chairman of the Board before his retirement in 1998.

Robert was a proud citizen of Hartford, serving two terms as alderman in the 1960’s. He was also on the Police and Fire Commission, the Hartford Area Development Corporation, the Hartford Hospital Foundation, Joint 1 School Board, and Hartford Rotary and board of the Schauer Center. He received the Alumni of the Year Award at HUHS in 2010.

He enjoyed beekeeping, collecting stamps and coins, fishing, berry picking, playing cards, reading, and making maple syrup.  In retirement he traveled to many countries, attended Badger and Packer games, but loved his time at his Pine Lane cottage in St. Germain the best.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 20 at the First United Methodist Church, 738 W. Monroe, Hartford, WI.  Visitation with family will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m. with the service to follow at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials to First United Methodist Church or The Schauer Center will be appreciated.
