Obituary of William C. Horst, 95, of Rubicon

William was born on April 25, 1923 in Rubicon, WI to Anna (nee Klink) and Conrad Horst. He served in the United States Air Force for 2 years. On October 6, 1948 he married LaVerne Anne Stoffel at Resurrection Catholic Church in Allenton, WI. Together they raised 10 children on the family farm doing what he loved most all of his life until 85 years old. He served on the Hartford Union High School Board for many years and always came to the aid of neighbors and family when they needed a helping hand. Bill was long time member of St. Kilian Catholic Church in Hartford and also a proud member of the Hartford American Legion. His love of farming carried over into retirement where he loved to garden and share his harvest with the family. He enjoyed sketching (a true artist), playing Sheepshead, Yahtzee and reading to keep his mind active when his body slowed down. He played the clarinet in his younger years with his band at Zivko’s Ballroom. In summers for one week he would take a break and pack the van full of kids and travel across the United States. He always was an inspiration to his children and will be deeply missed. Another retirement hobby of his was visiting old friends and neighbors when they moved to their rest homes.

William is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years , LaVerne Horst; 10 loving children, John (Cindy) of Slinger, David (Denise) Horst of Menominee, Susan (Clarence) Roethle of Rubicon, Larry (Karen) Horst of Rubicon, Nancy (Gary) Roskopf of Campbellsport, Rita (Jeff) Bellin of Fond du Lac, Michael (Leslie) of Rubicon, Dan (Lori) Horst of Hartford, Jane (Jeff) Becker of Hartford, and Carol (Steve) Pagel of Rubicon; 36 cherished grandchildren and 25 cherished great-grandchildren; dear brothers-in-law, Robert Stoffel of Slinger, Matt (Theresa) Stoffel of West Bend, and Ron Weber of Hartford; dear sisters-in-law, Donna Stoffel of Cedarburg and Shirley Stoffel of West Bend.
