June 8, 2021 – Hartford, WI – The long-rumored closing of Ponderosa Steakhouse in Hartford will come to fruition Sunday, June 20, 2021.
The restaurant, 1285 E. Sumner Street, had been experiencing challenges, including cutting its hours because of staffing shortages.
Below is a note of thanks the restaurant posted on social media thanking its customers.

Thank you for dining with us since 1994. It has been a great run for us. Unfortunately, the pandemic was too much for us to overcome.
Effective at the end of business on June 20, we will be closing our doors permanently.

I am sad to see you go! I have so many memories from Ponderosa.
I’m heart broken!! That was the place my mom always wanted to go eat whenever I came for a visit. She couldn’t get there on her own anymore. She passed away July 12, 2018 and in her honor, we had the meal after her funeral at your place. After she passed away, whenever I came to town I would have lunch there. (It was our thing) Ponderosa has a special place in my heart forever and I will really miss having (our) lunch there. Thank you for all the good memories you have given me!
