Portage man suffers serious burn injuries in Saukville asphalt plant accident | By Sheriff Jim Johnson

September 27, 2022 – Ozaukee Co., WI – On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at approximately 11:15 a.m. the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Ozaukee County Asphalt Plant located at 3979 Lakeland Rd. in the Town of Saukville, WI, for a male subject injured in an industrial accident.

The investigation found a 53-year-old male from Portage, Wisconsin was transferring heated oil used in the production of asphalt from a tanker truck to a holding tank when a failure occurred.
The victim was sprayed with the heated oil and sustained serious injuries.
The victim was an employee with a contracting company used to deliver the oil.
Flight for Life transported the victim to Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
The Saukville Fire Department, Grafton Fire Department, Port Washington Fire Department, Fredonia Fire Department, Ozaukee County Emergency Management, and the Ozaukee County Highway Department assisted on the scene.
