West Bend, WI – The leaders of Shepherd of the Hills Church on Wildwood Road in West Bend, Wi, leaned into the words ‘gather, grow, and glorify’ over the past year as the parish came together to support a multimillion-dollar expansion project. The culmination of that effort was celebrated with service in the new space on Palm Sunday and a ribbon cutting. The church community turned out for both events to share the good news.

Pastor Clark Schultz started the celebration with a note of thanks. “We are wonderfully blessed and want to share with you, our community,” he said.
Sarah Malchow was in charge of fundraising for the project. “Thank you for helping us continue to make West Bend the best bend,” she said. “It’s our privilege to honor and glorify God, gather, and grow as we praise His name and really serve souls that are desperately in need.”

The finished project received rave reviews from parishioners Laurie and Al Paul. “It’s just beautiful,” said Laurie. “It took a good year to get it done but God blessed us with a nice building and Sunday it was filled.”
Some of the amenities featured in the expansion include decorative stonework on the altar, a new AV sound system, and the design of a shepherd’s hook embedded in the floor.
Bud Abel has been with the project since day one. He admitted he had some doubts when things weren’t going as smoothly as hoped. “It’s been a relief and also a joy, especially when you look around this building and everything’s just very, very well done,” he said.
Parishioner Vera-Ellen Cook said she and her husband joined the church six years ago. “It’s been a great family of faith to be part of,” she said.

About 1,000 people regularly attend service at Shepherd of the Hills.

Pastor Clark said the construction will get underway shortly. “It’s kind of cool that we break ground during Easter and Holy Week and then have our first service in the expanded space during Christmas to celebrate the birth of our Savior,” he said.

Builders for Christ, a volunteer group, will be helping with the project. Mark Pamperin is with the organization. “We’re doing all the outside walls and the interior walls,” said Pamperin. “We’re also doing the altar; we’ll be working June 4 – August 10.”
