West Bend, Wi – Russell McCrimmon of Urbandale, IA, formerly of West Bend, WI and Batavia, IL, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the age of 93.
Russ is survived by 3 children, 2 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 4 step-great-grandchildren, his beloved sister-in-law, a handful of unofficially adopted kids and a diverse collection of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne, and brother-in-law, Kenny. A public service will not be held at this time, but his ashes will be scattered in Wyoming this Fall. Contact the family for details.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Emerging Media Fund of the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication (a fund he established in memory of his book-loving, news-hound wife, Anne), to Hospice of the Midwest (whose adoring caregivers made the last two years of his life happy and comfortable), or to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (whose BritComs he loved watching with Anne).
The family expresses their deepest thanks to all of the caregivers (aka friends) who became part of Russ’s family. May the love and laughter you shared with him always bring a smile to your face, because he loved to see you smile.
