Rytec started the Character Awards in 2023 to honor Burbach, VP of Sales and a beloved team member who brought a strong work ethic, sense of humor and collaborative spirit to the company for 25 years before his untimely passing in 2022.

Each year, Rytec presents the Character Award to one individual from the company who consistently demonstrates the principles by which Burbach lived – accountability, respect, commitment, integrity and collaboration.

The first Character Award recipient was Scott Lueneburg, a Cedarburg resident and Rytec’s Technical Support Manager. Lueneburg began as a part-time fabrication worker at Rytec in 2008 and built many valuable skills that earned him multiple promotions until he reached his current position as Director of Aftermarket Support.

During the nomination process, senior colleagues made several comments about Lueneburg. “Scott’s role requires that he interact with individuals at all levels inside and outside the company, using the leverage of collaboration to reach the goal of satisfying our customers. He uses the same level of respect and patience with all.

His commitment is evident in his diligent efforts day in and out. Each day, Scott handles tough situations with respect and communicates clearly and concisely to our clients.”

The second Character Award was given to Gretta Dondlinger, a Hartford resident who is Rytec’s Senior HR Generalist and Plant Visit Coordinator. She joined Rytec in 2018 as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, managing new employee hiring process for both facilities.

In her current role, Dondlinger is the main resource for Hartford-based employees in talent acquisition, performance management and employee relations. In 2023, she took on additional responsibilities to plan, coordinate and execute onsite customer visits.

Colleagues nominated Dondlinger with comments such as, “Gretta treats new and existing staff at all levels with respect and projects personal and professional integrity in each of her roles. She’s positive, hard-working and fun to be around.”

Dondlinger notes Rytec’s exceptional employees fuel her passion to do her best. “Our people have passion for what they do, work together as a team and they really care,” Dondlinger said. “It’s our people who make it easy for me to get out of bed every day, come to work, do a good job and make a difference.”

Rytec has been manufacturing high-speed, high-performance doors for commercial applications in Washington County since 1987. Currently, the company employs more than 300 people in its Harford and Jackson plants and is celebrating its 40th year in business this year.
