Sandpiper Inn supporting 4H and FFA at Jr. Livestock Auction

Washington Co., WI – Eric Schairer and his team at Sandpiper Inn wanted to get more involved in the community and this year took the leap to bid at the Jr. Livestock Auction at the Washington County Fair. “It was definitely different than what I’ve ever experienced,” said Schairer.

Schairer got his bidding sign and dove into the fast-paced environment with his trusty sidekick Mona. “She’s the swine whisperer… plus, Mona knows everybody,” he said.

Schairer successfully bid on a lamb, a steer, and a pig.

“It was very interesting,” he said. “I was bound and determined to get that steer, though and, at the end of the day, it’s all goes towards the community.”

Sandpiper Inn waged a successful $11.50 a pound bid for a 142-pound sheep shown by Gage Ratzel.

There was a successful $6 a pound bid on Zach Oelhafen’s 1,593-pound steer and a winning bid of $5.25 by Sandpiper Inn for Abby Depies 287-pound hog.

“I know a lot of individuals that were part of these clubs like the Kewaskum and Slinger FFA, and Boy Scout troops and we try to show our support,” said Schairer.  “The biggest thing is it’s helping reward our youth who show a strong work ethic on their projects and those proceeds helps them either with schooling after high school or just building an asset for their farms.”

The other aspect of the Jr. Livestock Auction, according to Schairer, was the respect the kids have for the bidders.

“About six or seven different individuals came up to me to thank me and they were part of that FFA club. That was really nice to see; it makes me feel really good,” he said.
