West Bend, WI – Scout Troop 226 put their outdoor cooking skills to good use on Thursday, November 5, preparing and serving a delicious meal for their charter partner, VFW Post 1393, in honor of Veterans Day, observed November 11.

Several dishes were prepared outdoors in heavy cast-iron Dutch ovens in the VFW parking lot before the post’s regular meeting. The Scouts enjoyed the opportunity to share their culinary talents while showing their appreciation for the veterans who have served our country.

Community service is an important part of Troop 226’s mission. In addition to honoring local veterans, the troop recently volunteered at Horicon Bank’s shred event to support Honor Flight. They will also be tending fires at Enchantment in the Park every Saturday evening between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The troop stays busy with outdoor adventures, too. Recent activities include a trip to the National High Adventure Base at Bechtel Summit last summer and a bike, boat, and backpacking adventure to Rock Island in Door County last month.

This weekend, Scouts are looking forward to another unique experience: a Gourmet Hike & Cook event at Mirror Lake.
Scouting provides opportunities for adventure, skill-building, and personal growth. Through outdoor experiences, rank advancement, merit badges, and community service projects, Scouts develop leadership, citizenship, and practical life skills that will serve them well for years to come.
Scout Troop 226 is proud to serve its community, build lasting friendships, and put the values of Scouting into action.
