According to Mequon police:
The incident happened at the MATC Mequon campus at 10 a.m. A 21-year-old was on a pole when it snapped at the base.
The class at MATC is an Electrical Power Distribution/ Line Mechanic course. The class description indicates the program prepares students for “entry-level electrical line worker positions.”
The program notes students must be physically fit and coordinated and have the “ability to climb without fear of heights.”
MATC issued a statement about the incident.
The man is currently in ICU at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. His injuries are extensive.
Mark Fechter with Community Church said the young man’s family are parishioners at the church on S. Main Street in West Bend.
“My son went through that same class many years ago,” said Fechter. “Definitely it is important to keep the man and his family in your prayers.”
Fechter said his son went to line mechanic school and safety was always stressed. “When my son was there they had to climb a 60-foot pole and that’s pretty high.”
