February 2, 2023 – Slinger, WI – The Slinger High School snowboard team crushed the competition last weekend, traveling to Wilmot Mountain on Saturday and Alpine Valley on Sunday for boardercross in the third event of the season.
The slalom and giant slalom courses Saturday were difficult and technical, but the racers proved themselves. Slinger freshman Mady Slavik took second place in the breaker girls division for slalom and giant slalom events.
For the Youth women slalom events, Slinger freshman Olivia Strupp finished with gold, Slinger Sophomore Emma Smith took silver, and Slinger freshman Abrah Adams took bronze. Slinger Juniors Sydney Kebbekus and Mickey DeLong finished right behind in fifth and sixth respectively.
In Junior Women division, Slinger Senior Delaney Braun finished in third for slalom.
In men’s slalom, breaker boys’ division Jacob Lischka finished in second. In the youth men’s division, Junior Joe Hefter took silver followed by Juniors Luke Schmitt and Jack Bullis in fifth and seventh places.
In giant slalom, Slavik finished yet again in second place. Strupp took another gold and Adams followed with a silver. Kebbekus, Smith, DeLong, and Junior Skylar Brandt finished in fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh. Braun also finished third again.
For the men, Schmitt finished in second and Senior Brayden Wiedmeyer.
On Sunday the racers traveled to Alpine Valley for the boardercross event.
In breaker, youth, and junior women’s divisions, Slavik, Smith, and D. Braun all finished in third for their bracket races.
In the youth men’s division, it was a close and tense race between three Slinger boys in the finals: Hefter, Sophomore Gavin Braun, and Junior Christian Flarity. The final race resulted in Hefter with gold, G. Braun with silver, and Flarity with fourth place.
Currently, Slinger Boys lead the conference in boardercross and giant slalom events. Slinger Girls are sweeping the competition with first place in all three events.
Next weekend, the team returns to Alpine Valley for its last regular season race.
