June 9, 2021 – Germantown, WI – This opening round soccer match of the WIAA Division 1 Regional between two cross-town rivals was fast paced and intense, with both teams’ season hanging in the balance.

The first nine minutes of the game saw three goals, with Menomonee Falls scoring the first goal just 2 minutes and 31 seconds into the game, followed by Germantown scoring the next two goals, the first one seven minutes into the game and the second goal coming a mere one minute and 14 seconds later.

The game then saw both teams be more methodical, while also battling constantly for field position, until Falls tied the game 2-2 at the 30-minute mark of the first half.

Germantown regained the lead just over a third of the way into the second half, holding that lead for six minutes before Falls tied the game, 3-3.

Germantown’s goaltending was able to hold off the pressure while its offense struggled in the Falls’ defensive zone, ultimately sending the game to overtime.

Germantown lost the first and only match-up between these two teams in the regular season, 4-1 on June 4.

Divine Savior Holy Angels (12-1-1) only suffered one loss this season, to a non-conference opponent in Whitefish Bay, so Germantown will definitely have its hands full.
