Solid win at home for UW-WC Wildcats By Stephen Murphy

Jan. 21, 2017 – West Bend, WI -UW-Washington County mens basketball team picked up a solid win at home on Saturday defeating UW-Marinette 92-56.

After an evenly-played first 7 minutes, the Wildcats turned up the intensity and executed extremely well on both ends of the court to close the half with a 46-26 lead.  Then the Wildcats blasted the Buccaneers with a 14-0 run to start the second half and began emptying the bench with a 60-26 lead on their way to a 92-56 victory in West Bend.

The win completed the Wildcats first seasonal sweep of UW-Marinette in several years having won 79-69 in Marinette on Nov. 30.  The teams have faced each other twice in each regular season as well as in the playoffs each of the last three seasons with the Buccaneers 7 of the 9 games, but the Wildcats seemed to have turned the tide on the rivalry this season.

All 12 Wildcats received significant playing time in the game and contributed to the win, 10 of them adding to the scoring column.

Dre Johnson scored a game high 31 including 4 of 5 from 3-point land and adding 5 rebounds.

Shaun Fischer scored 13 with 4 rebounds.  Evan Rathke scored 12 while adding 4 assists and 3 steals without any turnovers.  Aaron Rathke led in assists with 5 and had 3 steals.  Freshman Derrick Chaney also had 3 steals and added 2-2 shooting for his third consecutive game without a miss.  Freshman Miles Perkins led in rebounding with 7 and blocked shots with 2.  Perkins and Evan Rathke each threw down monster dunks in the game.

The team returns to action Wednesday night at home in West Bend versus UW-FDL.  Women’s game starts at 6 p.m., with the men’s game at about 7:30 p.m.
