STRATEGIC PRIORITY/RESULT ACHIEVED: Effective Mobility and Reliable Infrastructure
DISCUSSION:
Event activity has increased at Ackerman’s Grove County Park with the addition of beer garden events. It was requested by a lake district representative that the speed limit be analyzed with consideration for a reduction near the park from 55 mph to 45 mph, essentially extending the 45 mph zone south of the Hwy NN intersection (near Nuckleheadz Bar and Grill) to the south past the park.

The TSC directed the Highway Department to conduct a speed study near the park to gather data on traffic behavior and speed and conduct the study after June 1, 2022. The department gathered data at two locations – one location north of the park entrance and one south of the park entrance. Results are summarized in the attached report.

FISCAL EFFECT:
Potential costs for labor and materials associated with changes to signage along the corridor if the speed limit is changed.

RECOMMENDATION:
The Traffic Safety Commission does/does not support a speed limit reduction on Hwy Z in the vicinity of Ackerman’s Grove County Park.
