St Luke’s Lutheran Church welcomes new pastor | By Kerri Ast

April 19, 2022 – Slinger, WI – On April 1, St. Luke Church Lutheran Church in Slinger welcomed a new pastor. Pastor Joshua Gyson and his wife Sara relocated earlier this month to Slinger from the Tampa area.

Pastor Josh graduated with his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Michigan University with a major in ‘Philosophy: Professional & Applied Ethics’ in 2006.

He graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg with a ‘Master of Divinity’ in 2016. At graduation, he received special recognition from the seminary staff in the following areas: Preaching, Church in Society, and Ministerial Practice.

As a Minister of Word and Sacrament (Pastor), he has also served as the ‘Dean of the Tampa Conference’ (2017-2021), on the ‘First Call Theological Education Lead/Organizing Team’ (2020-present), and as a committee member of the Bishop’s Deacon Oversight Committee (2016-2020). Pastor Josh’s first career was as a Manager and Training Specialist in the Food & Service industry, and he has a passion for taking care of his community.

Pastor Joshua Gyson and his wife Sara have three children. They both grew up in west Michigan, Sara graduated with an Associate Degree from St. Petersburg College. She has a certificate as a ‘Community Health Worker’ and previously served as the manager for ‘Christian Social Services,’ a non-profit that serves an underserved population with food, clothing, and healthcare services in north Tampa area.
