Nov. 30, 2016 – Allenton, WI – Motorists may run into delays on Highway 33 in Allenton this afternoon as Washington County Sheriffs are on scene in relation to a hazard with the railroad track.
Authorities have been on scene since just after 4 p.m.
That crossing with Canadian National Railroad has been a bit of a thorn for motorists and the railroad. In 2014 repairs were made at the crossing because of broken pavement and deep holes surrounding the tracks. Neighbors complained about damage to their vehicles and there safety was also an issue.
Employees at Zuerns Building Supply said they managed to get through so the road must be open to traffic.
We’re still waiting for a call back from authorities.
UPDATE: A spokesperson with Canadian National Railroad said “it’s a rough crossing.”
Neighbor Ron Naab said the crossing has been dicey for years. CNR has been using a hard plastic approach and apparently with all the truck traffic that’s getting beat down and the spikes are coming up making it unsafe.
Stay tuned – we’ll keep you posted.
