UPDATE : Two pedestrians struck at Decorah and S. Main in West Bend by drunk driver

January 9, 2020 – West Bend, WI – UPDATE:  On January 9, 2020 at 3:05 p.m. a citizen called West Bend Police and reported two citizens were struck by an automobile at the intersection of S. Main St. and W. Decorah Rd.

When officers arrived on the scene they observed a 58-year-old man with injuries to his shoulder and leg, and a 50-year-old woman with injuries to her legs.

The officer’s investigation determined a 29-year-old man was driving a vehicle southbound on S. Main St. Witnesses reported that as the vehicle approached W. Decorah Road the light was solid red.

The 29-year-old man drove through the intersection at W. Decorah Road while the traffic light was solid red. The man and woman were in the intersection walking a dog. The 29-year-old man struck both the man and the woman while they were in the crosswalk.

Officers observed signs the driver was impaired. The driver failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested for OWI Causing Injury – Second Offense OWI. The driver was on probation for previous OWI Causing Injury. While at the scene investigating officers recovered drug paraphernalia. Officers also arrested the man for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Probation Violation. Officers also cited the driver for Violation of Traffic Control Signal.

West Bend Fire personnel responded to the scene and transported the two pedestrians to West Bend Froedtert Hospital where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident did not involve any children as neighboring Badger School was letting out.

A call has been placed to West Bend Police for details on the driver of the vehicle.
