March 5, 2023 – West Bend, WI Â Washington County Youth Hockey Association (WCYHA) had a historic year by introducing its first-ever, all-female hockey team at the U14, Bantam level – culminating by successfully qualifying for the Wisconsin Area Hockey Association (WAHA) state championship tournament March 4-5.
The girls program at WCYHA has been growing for several years now.
As the popularity of playing with the same gender grows, we were able to field a team of 16 girls who range from 7th-9th grade and proudly go by the name Washington County Ice Lynx.
The association also fields many co-ed teams (Washington County Ice) and several other younger Ice Lynx teams. Â Hockey is a sport that can be played from as young as 3-adult and WCYHA has programs for all levels of play.
The girls on the U14 Ice Lynx team attend various area schools in Slinger, Germantown, West Bend, Hartford and Kewaskum. Players vary from first year skaters to seasoned skaters who started over 7-years ago. Â The dynamic and support the team has for each other has made for a very successful season.
This weekend the girls laced up at State, they have competed against seven other teams from across the state of Wisconsin to crown the very best U14 girls team – where the Ice Lynx brought their swagger and will be playing for third place at noon today.
That was a fantastic tournament played by the Washington Co. Ice Lynx! Great team effort by all, especially the goalie for the win!!!
