March 20, 2020 – Washington Co., WI – The United Way of Washington County is establishing a $25,000 COVID-19 Relief Fund to assist partner nonprofit agencies deal with the impact of the current health crisis. Â In addition, we are grateful for a generous donation of $13,000 from Meijer, Inc., which will be added to the fund.
United Way of Washington County is aware of the potential many individuals and families will be impacted by the outbreak. We are responding with this fund to be able to move resources quickly to community-based organizations most affected by emerging health, economic and social impacts. This fund is available to nonprofit agencies that serve residents of Washington County and are currently funded partners of United Way of Washington County.
United Way of Washington County Executive Director Kristin Brandner said, “This health crisis provides all of us an opportunity to unite and support our community.  Together, as a uniting force for good, we will help those that need us the most during these unprecedented times.”
The criteria for non-profit agencies to request emergency funds are to assist in the following areas:
- Impact caused by the outbreak that may result in additional program staffing due to influx of unanticipated individuals or families seeking services
- Need for securing food, shelter and childcare for individuals and families
- Increased need for mental health services, especially vulnerable populations such as older adults and individuals with disabilities
United Way of Washington County will coordinate our response directly with our family of partner nonprofit agencies affected by coronavirus. We encourage individuals and families in need to seek assistance by simply dialing 2-1-1, a United Way funded helpline that connects you to local government and nonprofit agencies and programs.
United Way partner agencies in need of more information can contact John Schiraj at jschiraj@unitedwayofwashingtoncounty.org.
