United Way Announces 2022 Ziegler Leadership Scholarship

February 17, 2022 – West Bend, WI – The United Way of Washington County awarded the 2022 Ziegler Leadership Scholarship to Maxwell Roy, Director of Operations for the Boys Camp; Girls Club of Washington County.

Max will receive $2,500 towards his Doctor of Public Health studies at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

United Way of Washington County believes that agency success starts with strong and
capable leadership. We recognize the need to further equip local nonprofits for
excellence as we expect measurable and impactful community program outcomes. This
scholarship is an opportunity to build talent development and nonprofit capacity in an
ever-changing environment.

The Ziegler Leadership Scholarship was established in 2016 and is awarded annually to
a nonprofit executive or nonprofit emerging leader to expand and enhance their
leadership development through continuing education, training and/or certification.
As Director of Operations, Max is responsible for overseeing five Washington County
locations of the Boys & Girls Club, including 2,500 members and 60 staff. He has
completed several leadership development programs through the Boys & Girls Club of
America, including Club Director’s Academy program, Advanced Leadership program
and National Trainers Initiative. In 2017 he graduated from the Master of Public Health
program at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

“United Way is thrilled to award this scholarship to Max Roy,” said Kristin Brandner,
CEO, United Way of Washington County. “Max is dedicated to improving himself and
this community and always strives for excellence. We know his continuing education will
have positive ripple effects on Washington County.”

Max will utilize the scholarship to support his current enrollment in the Doctor of Public
Health Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he will complete a
dissertation on the mental health and wellbeing of nonprofit leaders in youth-serving
organizations.

“Leadership, and continued development, is foundational in my priorities and values
when it comes to the work I do for the good of the community,” said Max. “This funding will support the continuation of my development as a leader in the nonprofit sector
serving youth, families and communities.”
