October 31, 2023 – West Bend, WI – One of the centerpieces of an interior remodel at St. Frances Cabrini in West Bend, WI, is being installed this week. A floor-to-ceiling mural of Jesus Christ and his disciples is replacing a large crucifix, that has been relocated to the vestibule at the Seventh Avenue entrance to the church.
A network of scaffolding stretches to the ceiling of the church as three men on the upper tiers juggle a pair of 12-foot-long tubes.

The mural is wrapped around the tubes and secured with orange tape. The men use large roller brushes to spread the paste, then they delicately unroll the mural and hand-over-hand smooth out the edges.
The install is tricky as the wall is convex, meaning it is rounded outward. The wall also, as it gets closer to the ceiling, juts forward and makes for an interesting lean high above the parish floor.
Only a portion of the installation was completed Monday at St. Frances Cabrini Church. The crew will be back at 7 a.m. to put the final segment in place. It’s not a quick process but the church is open to the public if you would like to witness history in the making.
