VIDEO | Thanks for supporting 25 Runs of Gratitude for United Way of Washington County | By Pete Rettler

Dec. 22, 2018 – Washington Co., WI – Today I completed 24 years, 356 days of not missing a day of running. That’s 9,121 days in a row and run No. 17 of the 25 Runs of Gratitude.

United Way 25 Runs of Gratitude

We had an incredible group join us for a run today at Legendary Whitetails. Somehow Legendary Whitetails pulled some strings and got the big guy there himself. Yes, Santa made an appearance today in Slinger, Wisconsin at run 17 of the 25 Runs of Gratitude. Santa did not choose to run with us, he is resting up for his busiest day of the year. We were also joined by numerous members of the Emerging Leaders group as well as the Legendary Whitetails family. We had children running with us today along with a couple dogs. Afterwards Legendary Whitetails treated us to some hot drinks and cookies.

I spent a mile running with Angela Johnson. Angela is on the Board of Directors for United Way of Washington County and is a Human Resources Business Partner for Menasha in Hartford. She is also one of the founding members of the Emerging Leaders group. Angela shared that the Emerging Leaders is a team of young professionals who actively invest their time, talent, and resources to improve our community. Their mission is to ignite and inspire one another by providing opportunities to lead, serve, and grow. They have three areas of impact; Professional Development, Volunteering, and Networking. They are a place to grow your network, meet community leaders and CEOs, invest in the community through volunteerism and develop personally and professionally. They have several upcoming events and I encourage you to check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1370024393050785/

It is amazing to me the incredible streak of weather that started and continues during the 25 Runs of Gratitude. When Kristin, Judy and I started to plan this event I surely thought there would be days I would be running alone. I fully expected there to be some days in the single digits or 10 inches of snow. Instead, the worst conditions we had so far was a little ice when we ran for Elevate in Jackson with Mike Sterr from Coldwell Banker. The rest of the runs have been nearly perfect and the 10-day forecast indicates good conditions will continue.

We have been blessed again.

I want to personally thank Ben Huffman, the Vice President of Operations for Legendary Whitetails and his entire team for throwing such a great event. Ben also serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Washington County and most certainly is on Santa’s nice list.

After this morning’s run me, Drew, Max and Maddie invited ourselves to breakfast at my sister Mary’s house in Hartford. Mary treated us to some wonderful breakfast wraps and an assortment of cookies. We had a wonderful time visiting with Uncle Whitey and listening to Mary chuckle as she told us numerous stories. Mary is also on Santa’s nice list for letting us invade her house this morning and for the wonderful care she provides my parents.

Sunday, Dec. 23, we run at 9 a.m. for Consumer Credit Counseling, 139 N. Main Street in West Bend. The run is being sponsored by both West Bend Rotary Clubs. See you then!
