Who remembers the story behind the Cedar Lake Yacht Club’s 1941 Wooden Palmer

Big Cedar Lake, WI – A large crowd at Cedar Lake Yacht Club gathered over a weekend in May of 2017 for the dedication of a 1941 Wooden Palmer C Scow that now hangs in the foyer of the club.

Bruce Rosenheimer and Hugh Wakefield relay the story about the restored wood sea boat that belonged to the Wrigley family and how it was saved after being pulled out of storage after 70 years.

Olympic gold medal winner Harry “Buddy” Melges, Jr. was the guest speaker at the dedication at that time.

In 2011 Melges was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame. His bio reads: Melges has become one of the more successful and acclaimed racing skippers in the world. He has two Olympic medals; world championships in Stars (2), 5.5 Meters (3), E-Scows (5), and Skeeter Ice Boats (7); and an America’s Cup win as co-helmsman. He is a three-time Rolex Yachtsman of the Year.
