Letter to the Editor | Vote for Judge Maria Lazar for Wisconsin Court of Appeals District II | By Marian Nowak

March 27, 2022 – Washington County, WI – There’s an important race for Wisconsin Court of Appeals on April 5, 2022. Unlike the Wisconsin Supreme Court that chooses its cases, the Court of Appeals must take every case that is appealed, with rare exceptions, involving civil, family, criminal, traffic, mental commitment or juvenile. Therefore, an appellate judge should be well-versed in all legal areas.

Nevertheless, incumbent Judge Lori Kornblum only practiced law in one area. Before this appointment by Governor Tony Evers which she assumed in January 2022, she had never served judicially. Also, note that she has been a volunteer attorney for the Democrat party and is endorsed by the Wisconsin AFL-CIO union.
On the other hand, Judge Maria Lazar has both legal and judicial experience in every area of the law. Over the past seven years, she has served as a judge in Waukesha’s Circuit Court on the criminal bench, drug treatment court, as well as civil, family, and juvenile cases. She presided over jury trials, court trials, and evidentiary hearings and made decisions orally and in writing with 99% of them affirmed as upholding the Constitution. She has sentenced defendants to prison, jail or probation.
As an attorney, she argued in the State Supreme Court and multiple federal and state courts and has written appellate briefs in state, federal and the U.S. Supreme Court. She served 5-years as Assistant Attorney General and represented both Scott Walker and Tony Evers in different cases. Because she has a record for defending our constitutional freedoms and rule of law, she is endorsed by most sheriffs and judges in District II and Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices Rebecca Bradley, Dan Kelly, Michael Gableman, and Chief Justice Annette Ziegler.
Please join me in voting for Judge Maria Lazar for Wisconsin Court of Appeals District II.
