Friday morning at 1:41 a.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7500 block of Glacier Drive in the Town of Barton to investigate an accident.  Deputies arrived and found the operator walking around in a confused state with a head laceration.  The preliminary investigation suggested the operator, a 26-year-old Town of Barton woman, was northbound on Glacier Drive and failed to negotiate a corner.

The vehicle she was operating left the roadway and struck an old stone foundation to a barn causing severe damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.

The subject was arrested for 2nd offense OWI and transported to a local hospital for a legal blood draw.  While at the medical facility, processing the OWI, the investigating deputy overhead staff members talking about the crash between each other and were under the impression the crash was low speed with a minor impact.

The deputy interjected that the crash was probably a result of a high-speed impact which caused about 6 inches of penetration to the passenger side of the vehicle. This information assisted medical staff in changing the code the hospital was operating under and a subsequent CT scan showed the woman had a brain bleed.

She was then was transferred to Froedtert by ambulance.
