An idea is being floated to Washington County Supervisors to shift the monthly meetings from the lower level of the courthouse to the second-floor courtroom at the Old County Courthouse.
“My philosophy is we’ve put a ton of money in this building over the years, it’s a beautiful building and it gets used but underutilized,” said Joshua Schoemann, county administrator. “The board would have a greater appreciation of this building if they were in it and in front of it all the time.”
Coming up the County Board will be looking at remodeling the existing board room and Schoemann recommended they consider this instead.
“We’re going to spend hundreds of thousands in remodeling the basement why don’t we consider this gorgeous room,” he said.
Schoemann has been in discussions with Patricia Lutz, executive director of the History Center of Washington County. He said they’ve been discussing several things like parking and efficient technology upgrades, since the board votes are conducted with an electronic monitor.
“We’d look at technology that doesn’t have a physical board ,” Schoemann said. “We’re going to iPads and there are apps that could show the voting tally.”
Parking, according to Schoemann, would be remedied with the move of Delta Defense, a neighbor across the street on Sixth Avenue. Delta Defense/USCCA is building a new headquarters on Corporate Center Drive in West Bend.
A final vote on the issue is still several months down the road.
