West Bend Police confirm body found in upper parking lot at Washington County Courthouse

May 17, 2024 – West Bend, WI – West Bend Police confirmed a body was found by a county employee at 6:18 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, on county grounds.

Lt. Brian McAndrews said police responded to the courthouse complex, 432 E. Washington Street, for an individual that was on the west side of the complex in the upper parking lot. The male, 69, was near the doors on the west side.

McAndrews said the man suffered a “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

McAndrews said nobody was hurt and no one witnessed the incident as the person entered the parking lot “sometime during the overnight hours.”

There were no delays to the start of the school day for the elementary school next door. Parents said police had the courthouse parking lot cordoned off.

McAndrews said, “There was no damage done to the courthouse property and no attempt at forced entry.”

The county coroner was called to the scene and the incident remains under investigation.
