WIAA make-up games a hot topic as tournament season approaches | By Jordyn Heckendorf

Feb. 12, 2019 – Jackson, WI – Severe weather has caused a number of regular-season high school basketball games to be canceled across Washington County and the rest of Wisconsin. Many involved in high school sports are wondering about games being rescheduled as the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state tournament season starts next week.

WIAA director of communications Todd Clark said once tournament play begins the conference season officially ends and no other games are allowed to be made up.

“For example if a team in Division 4 has playoffs begin on Thursday, that team has until Wednesday to squeeze in the rest of its games,” said Clark.

According to the WIAA it is typical for non-conference game cancellations to be disregarded since those outcomes do not affect standings or conference championships. That being said some school officials are still working to make accommodations for conference games to be rescheduled as quickly as possible.

The first round of WIAA regionals for area basketball playoffs begin Tuesday, Feb. 19 as local teams like Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Slinger, Kewaskum, West Bend, and Hartford Union begin a trek to the WIAA state tournament.
