Police Department
The card reader for the employee entrance failed and had to be replaced.
Two OWI arrests were made last week. One was a Culver’s patron who showed up at their front counter reeking of alcohol, and was arrested by Officer Henning for OWI – 1st Offense. The other was called in by Officer Oswald who was off duty and spotted the deviating vehicle on USH 45, which turned into an OWI – 4th Offense arrest for Officer Lake.
Chief Dolnick has been working on the Uniform Crime Report codes within the records management system and continues to update the Core Standards Verification records.
Officer Oswald has begun quarterly Defense and Arrest Tactics update training. Next week Officer Laabs will recertify everyone for Taser and Officer Brinks will deliver his first in-house ballistic shield training.
Preparations are in place for Action in Jackson and the parade.
Fire Department
The weekend brought many, mostly serious calls. There were 11 runs requiring transports to several different hospitals including Froedtert and Children’s Hospitals in Milwaukee, St, Joe’s in West Bend, and Aurora in Grafton; a total of nineteen medical runs for the week.
The Jackson FD was called to Hartford for a structural fire. Hartford FD put our firefighters to work with them. It was a great save of the house by Hartford and we were grateful to take part. During that fire, our ambulance was called for a motor vehicle that started on fire. It was initially unknown if the victim was out of the vehicle. The good news is that everyone was OK.
There was no Monday evening training due to Memorial Day. The rest of the week was devoted to maintenance catch-up. The Chief had a busy week with webinar training on possible new software for improving medical reporting. The JFD is the last department in Washington County not using computers or tablets on our ambulances. The software will improve our report writing and billing processes.
The Washington Chiefs Association meeting touched on topics for improving the County’s fire service. The Washington County Emergency Medical meeting covered upcoming events, as well as training and updates on hospitals, and how EMTs can improve in the field.

 
Joint Parks and Recreation
The deadline to register for the Jackson 5k and receive a t-shirt is Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.; and for parade entry is Monday at 4 p.m.
The Splash Park opened last weekend and has been very busy all week.
Angie cleaned and organized the Early Childhood area for summer programming. The Boys & Girls Club was closed this week, for summer cleaning; and Angie and Kim did a fantastic job scrubbing down the Jackson Park kitchen for Action in Jackson. Next week, summer will be in full swing.
Pickleball begins its summer hours on Monday. Passive Pickleball is Tuesdays from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays from 5:15 – 7:15 p.m.; General Pickleball is Mondays and Fridays from 8:30 until Noon and Wednesday Evenings from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
The Summer Senior Potawatomi trip is scheduled for Tuesday.
The Park & Rec Department is looking for a tennis instructor for the months of July and August. Please call Renee if you are interested (262) 677-9665.
Action in Jackson (June 10, 11, & 12) is DESPERATLEY IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS to help with the kitchen on Friday night and Saturday, the 5k run, parade marshals, and being a “Klement’s Racing Sausage.” Please call Jess if you can help (262) 677-9665.
Beer Garden – We could still use a few folks to help on Father’s Day, June 19 from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. We also need a decorating crew for Thursday, June 16 at 4 p.m. (to mainly hang lights from the shelter rafters in Jackson Park.) Please call Jess if you can help (262) 677-9665.
Building Inspection
A Certificate of Occupancy was issued to the second Operation FINALLY HOME residence this week.
Complaints and permit applications are being caught up on this week.
Public Works
The Jackson Water Utility continued this week with Digger’s Hotline locates, meter installations, radio programming, and fire hydrant maintenance. HD Supply (Sensus rep) was here Friday reviewing meter reading with staff and billing system entries.

 

A total of 345 disconnection notices were mailed this week. Disconnections will be made on June 13.

 

On June 1 there was a water main break on the new main associated with the Wilshire Drive reconstruction project, due to contractor carelessness. Jordan’s Restoration has been hired to clean up a flooded basement caused by the break. There were 204 Digger’s Hotline locates for the month of May averaging 10 per day.

 

A new driveway was poured over the water shutoff on Woodland Drive.

 

After notifying the homeowner, the contractor returned to re-pour the driveway allowing access to the valve.

 
The Street & Parks Department conducted general and vehicle maintenance, replaced broken trash containers, and mowed various Village locations. Bag and brush curbside pickup continued this week with a repaired chipper. The next scheduled bag and chipping day is June 20th. Mowing is being done between rain storms with no overtime. The banners are up on Main Street with flags to follow. Due to an ordering glitch, the new American flags for Main Street have not yet been received. The flags will be installed for Action in Jackson. Potholes are being cold-patched in various locations including the railroad tracks on STH 60. The Railroad and WisDOT have been contacted for more significant repairs. The kitchen hood fire system in Jackson Park and fire extinguishers are being tested for Action in Jackson. Jackson Park is being readied for the big festival.
At the WWTP, the rotating bridge on Clarifier #2 stopped functioning. The brushes needed to be replaced. The DSPS (Department of Safety and Professional Services) inspected the boiler at the plant. There were no major issues. The grit cone liner was replaced by staff, and the bypass gate valve was inspected, with a plan being completed for its replacement.
The Wilshire Drive Reconstruction project: The storm lateral installation will begin next week. The conflict between the electric (We Energies) crossing and the storm sewer main has been completed in a timely matter, and the remaining storm sewer is being installed. Thank you to We Energies for their quick response in relocating the wiring and keeping the project on schedule.
Clerk/Treasurer
The new election equipment is at the County Clerk’s office for annual scheduled maintenance.
The office continues to prepare the documents for the next licensing year.
Administrator
Much of this week was spent in mediation sessions and depositions.
A dedication was held Saturday for Operation FINALLY HOME. The procession went from the Community Center to the new homes on Marshland. Support our new military heroes and new residents of the Village of Jackson.
