7 high school students from Washington Co. honored by Daughters of the American Revolution. By Marie Schmidt

 

 

March 23, 2017 – West Bend – The Joseph Marest Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honors seven high school seniors who have been named by their schools as DAR Good Citizens.

The students were honored at an awards ceremony in West Bend.  Each recipient received a gift card, certificate and flag.

A special program, with presenter Janean Van Beckum from The History Center of Washington County followed.

She presented “The Making of an Exhibit.”

Students honored included:

Chloe Christiaansen, Hartford Union High School.  Chloe is the daughter of Wendy Smith and Scott Christiaansen.

Kara Conley, West Bend West High School.  Kara is the daughter of Kevin and Kay Conley.

Maria Tischer, Living Word Lutheran High School.  Maria is the daughter of Todd and Luda Tischer.

Kayla Fixel, Germantown High School.  Kayla is the daughter of Kevin and Linda Fixel.

Hailey Herriges, Kewaskum High School.  Hailey is the daughter of James and Tina Herriges.

Alison Wolf, Slinger High School.  Alison is the daughter of Erin Schloemer and David Wolf.

Meredith Vande Zande, West Bend East High School.  Meredith is the daughter of Jack and Carrie Vande Zande.

 

Each DAR Good Citizen is selected by his or her school.  These seniors have demonstrated outstanding dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.  Daughters of the American Revolution awards $150,000 in scholarships and aid each year, in addition to conducting a variety of community, genealogical and history projects throughout the year.  Chapter Good Citizen chair is Marie Schmidt.

 

The DAR is a patriotic, educational and historic organization, whose members trace their heritage to men and women who served in the cause of the American Revolution.

The Joseph Marest Chapter DAR was organized in West Bend in 1950 and has been honoring Good Citizens for over 60 years.
