April 11, 2023 – Hartford, WI – A nice tribute Tuesday night at the Hartford Common Council meeting as many thanks were given to outgoing 2nd District alderman and council president Dennis Hegy for his 31 years of service.

“Our own Dennis Hegy has done a phenomenal job,” said Mayor Timothy Michalak.

Leaning into a bit of history, Michalak cited a number of recognizable businesses in Hartford that have not been around as long as Hegy has been representing Hartford, WI.

“Dennis predates Signacast which came to Hartford in 1993, he also predates JD Laser which came in 1997,” said Michalek. “Dennis was here before Zeller Transportation started in 2002 … that was halfway through Dennis’s tenure.

“The Hartford Walmart arrived halfway through Dennis’s service to the city.

“Hartford also saw significant growth on Highway 60 and East Sumner Street; most of the fast-food restaurants were here after Dennis came. He was one of the powers that helped save the Chandelier Ballroom from the wrecking ball which obviously was a very important part of our history.

“To give you a real perspective 30 subdivisions went in during Dennis’s tenure: the growth of the city of Hartford pretty much mirrors Dennis’s service to the city.

“It is not often that people will take over three decades of time and donate it to public service. I think Dennis has done a wonderful job representing our community even outside of the community and that goes to show the strength of his resolve to do the best for the city which is really a wonderful thing,” said Michalak.

The Mayor then presented Hegy with a plaque that read:  Sincere appreciation to Dennis Hegy for 31 years of unwavering service to the residents of the city of Hartford as a distinguished alderperson, council president and devoted member of numerous boards commissions and committees and with that sir a sincere congratulations.”
Michalak also recognized Dist. 3 alderman Kyle Sikora for his service to the community.
Also, city planner Justin Drew has given notice and Hartford is looking for a new city planner. His last day will be in mid-May.
