June 23, 2022 – Mayville, WI – The tight-knit community of Mayville is mourning the loss of a young mom and her 1-year-old son following a fatal crash in Washington County early Wednesday morning.
Authorities said the accident happened at 5:42 a.m. The Washington County said it was a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 164 and Elmwood Road in the Village of Richfield.
Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis confirmed the name of the woman killed, Casey Lynn Schwartz, 30, of Mayville.
Condolences started posting on husband Casey Schwartz’s social media late Wednesday night. Prayer groups across Mayville and Theresa added the Schwartz family to their prayer chains as condolences poured in and the community grieved for the family.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the crash.
An initial investigation of the crash showed a southbound vehicle operated by a 30-year-old Mayville resident and occupied by her one-year-old son was rear ended by another southbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle was pushed into the northbound lane of traffic and struck by a northbound vehicle. The 30-year-old Mayville resident and her son succumbed to their injuries at the crash scene.
