Casey’s General Store expected to build in Washington County | By Samantha Sali

Jan. 6, 2018 – Hartford, WI – On Monday, Jan. 8 the Hartford Plan Commission will meet to review a concept plan for development of a Casey’s General Store to be built on Highway 60 near Walmart.

Arc Design submitted a Concept Plan to Hartford’s Planning Commission.  The gas station/convenience store would be located on the northwest corner of Liberty Avenue and State Trunk Highway 60 next to the commercial strip center.

This past summer surveyors were spotted taking measurements on the site along Highway 60.

The plan includes 10 fuel-pump stations, fuel canopy, and a convenience store. Two driveways have also been proposed; one to access Liberty Avenue as a right-turn entrance and the second would connect to the strip center.

Sidewalk will be discussed as well.

Formal building design, engineering, landscaping, and lighting plans have not yet been submitted yet.

The meeting Monday in the Common Council Chambers is in the lower level of City Hall, 109 N. Main Street. The meeting is open to the public and gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

On a side note: According to Casey’s General Store web page the business started “In 1959, Founder Don Lamberti leased a store from his father on East 14th and Broadway in Des Moines, Iowa. After nine years of operating this old country store, which he remodeled into a convenience store, Don’s gas supplier and friend, Kurvin C. Fish, suggested Don buy the Square Deal Oil Company. Don followed his advice and purchased the service station with a three-bay garage in Boone, Iowa. Using the knowledge from his store in Des Moines, Don converted the gas station into a convenience store. The Boone store was named “Casey’s.”

Currently Casey’s General Store has over 2,000 locations. The company has made a name for itself with “clean stores and friendly employees who pride themselves in customer service.”

The closest Casey’s General Store is in Beaver Dam. Matter of fact, it looks like the ONLY Casey’s store in Wisconsin is in neighboring Dodge County. The store is open 24 hours; it has donuts, pizza and delivery.
