Obituary | Dennis F. Gundrum, 94, of Slinger

September 23, 2020 – Slinger, WI – Dennis F. Gundrum, 94, of Slinger (formerly of Rubicon), passed away peacefully at The Pavilion at Glacier Valley in Slinger, WI on September 21, 2020.

Dennis was born on August 19, 1926 to Nickolas and Juliana (nee Schulz) Gundrum. Dennis married the love of his life, Jeanne, in 1984 and they made their home in Rubicon.

Veteran, Dennis

Dennis served with the 45th Infantry Division in the Korean War.

He served as a Combat Army Medic receiving a Bronze Star and other medals. He was a life member of the 279th Infantry Association and a member of the VFW Post 8834 in Hartford. When asked about his military service he always said “he was just doing his job.” He was a very humble man.

While he was a lifelong postal carrier in Rubicon he also farmed and was well known by the community. He enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, cards, piecing puzzles together, staying at his cabin in Wisconsin Dells, and an occasional gambling excursion to area casinos.
Dennis is survived by a brother, Ruben of Rubicon; a sister, Patronella Koloski of New Berlin, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Luke and Bernard; and sisters, Ethelreda Kakes and Gladys August.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Catholic Church, W1170 Rome Road, Rubicon on Wednesday, September 30, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Britto Suresh presiding.

Visitation for family and friends on Wednesday at the church from 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Dennis was a lifelong member of St. John’s Church in Rubicon and will be laid to rest at St. John’s cemetery with full military honors.
