WASO Deputies, Kewaskum Fire and the Kewaskum Police Department were subsequently dispatched to the scene.

The first Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy on scene located an approximately 20 foot by 80 foot detached garage with visible smoke and flame coming from the middle section.

The homeowner was located and confirmed no one was inside the garage. Kewaskum Fire arrived and was able to contain the spread of the fire further in the building.

The initial investigation reveals the homeowner had recently finished cutting the grass and had put the mower in the garage before returning into the residence to clean up.

A passerby Good Samaritan observed smoke beginning to come out of the garage, and proceeded to stop and alert the homeowner who called 911. It is believed at this time the fire originated from the lawn mower.

The building is believed to be a total loss, along with multiple vehicles and other contents from inside. Total property loss is estimated to be approximately $200,000.

The Kewaskum Fire Department was assisted by Boltonville Fire, Allenton Fire, Kohlsville Fire, West Bend Fire, Jackson Fire, and Campbellsport Fire.
